AARP Driver Safety Program

AARP sponsors a 2-day defensive driving class which may result in an insurance discount.  The cost is $20 for AARP members, $25 for non-members.  Reservations are required and can be made by calling the main office.  Check "The Happenings" for upcoming dates.

AARP Tax Aide

We will begin taking calls for appointments to file your 2023 taxes on Tuesday, January 16, 2024.  The AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program offers free tax prepartion help to anyone, with special attention to those over the age of 50 who cannot afford a tax preparation service.  Appointments are required.  Appointments are Tuesdays and Fridays beginning in February through April.  Spots fill quickly so call to reserve your time early to get the best availability.  

Ask-The-Nurse Program

Rose Jensen, R.N., BBS, MSM, Northwest Community Healthcare's Community Nurse, can provide blood pressure checks and answer your specific health and wellness questions.  She can also help you manage your diabetes, understand your medications, provide nutrition education and assist you in finding a physician.  Services are free and no appointment is necessary.  However, if you want to discuss some health concerns, please register in the main office so the nurse is prepared to spend time with you.

Adult Day Services

Established in 1991, this program is for those with mild to moderate memory loss that gives those caring for them a break during the day.  Offered three days per week, Monday through Wednesday, from 11am to 3pm, this program offers exercise and socialization in a safe environment.  Participants must be able to feed and use the restroom unassisted.

Benefits Eligiblity Screening

Our Social Services staff can provide one-on-one assistance to help determine benefits available to you.  Assistance is available in Spanish and Russian.  Appointments after hours are available upon request.

Bereavement Group

If you've been struggling with grief, attending a bereavement support group may help you move towards healing.  This facilitator-led group meets the last Monday of the month at 11:00AM.  This group is informal and intended for conversation and sharing. Call the main office at (847) 991-1112 to reserve your spot.

Book Club

Book Club meets the third Wednesday of each month at 10:00AM.  This month's book is available for pick-up at the center by calling the main office at (847) 991-1112.

Caregiver Support Group

Monthy support group for the caregivers of our Caring Hearts Adult Day Center participants and any interested community members.  Meetings are the second Wednesday of each month from 11:00AM-12:00PM

Dial-A-Ride

Palatine Township operates a minibus door-to-door service for seniors and permanently handicapped individuals living within the township boundaries.  Call the Township office at (847) 358-6907 for further information.

Hearing Screenings

Hearing screening are currently unavailable at the Center.  Appointments with an audiologist can be made by calling Hearing Care of Palatine at (847) 358-2896.

Home Delivered Meals

General and special diet meals are available to homebound residents age 60 and over who are unable to prepare meals for themselves.  For an eligibility assessment, contact Catholic Charities Northwest Senior Services at (847) 253-5500

Latino Social Group

An opportunity to socialize and have fun.  Please contact Adrianna Daniel at (847) 991-1112 x. 223 if you are interested in joining us.

Lending Closet

Durable medical equipment, such as walkers, wheelchairs, canes and crutches are available for rental.  Items can be rented for up to 3 months.

Paper Craft Workshop

Use our open workshop time to create cards and invitations on your own.  The workshop is open 10:00AM - 1:30PM the second and fourth Tuesday of the month.  

Podiatry Office Hours

Appointments are availabile once a month and can be made by calling the main office at (847) 991-1112.  Insurance will be billed for visits.

Senior Health Insurance Program

SHIP, the Senior Health Insurance Program, is offered through the Illinois Department of Insurance and assists seniors with tricky insurance questions.  Counselors are available to assist individuals with questions or problems regarding Medicare A and B, Medicare Supplement Policies, Medicaid, Presecription Drug Plans, Medicare Advantage plans, eligibility for entitlement programs, appealing claims denials and grievances.

Medicare Open Enrollment is October 15, 2023 through December 7, 2023.  Our Social Services staff can assist you through the Open Enrollment process.  Call to schedule an appointment in September or early October.  When you come in you will need to bring your Medicare card as well as a list of current medications so we can accurately predict your costs for the next year and hope to save you money.  Appointments after hours are available up request.

Take Off Pounds Sensibly (or T.O.P.S.)

T.O.P.S. is a weight-loss support group.  If you need encouragement while dropping a few pounds, this group is for you.  Contact Nancy Thommes at (847) 397-7648 or tops0153@comcast.net for information.

Technology Lab

The Technology Lab is open on Thursdays from 10AM-noon.  Our volunteers can help with computer, tablet, and phone support.  Appointments are $5 per visit.  Please call the main office for a reservation.

Traveling Lunch

The Traveling Lunch Group meets the second Friday of each month at 11:30AM.  Call the main office to reserve your spot by the prior Wednesday.  We'll make the reservation, payment is on you own.  Check "The Happenings" for upcoming restaurants.
